Tromsø's Largest Ocean Clean Up

Join us on September 16, 2017

The cleanup

We are partnering with the Ocean Conservancy to harness the power of the people to fight ocean trash. Nearly 12 million people and counting have taken part in the world’s biggest volunteer effort to protect the ocean for the past 30 years.  When we saw that Tromsø was not involved, we knew our community would want to represent not only Norway, but the world.

The Place

Tromsø is not only a place we call home, but it is known as the Gateway to the Arctic. Located 350 kilometers North of the Arctic circle, nature takes precedent here and it is our duty to take responsible and keep it clean for the wildlife and people who live here. For outdoor enthusiasts, Tromsø city centre is conveniently located just around the corner from seemingly untouched wilderness, which offers many opportunities for activities such as hiking, fishing, kayaking, dog sledding and whale safaris.

The Details

The cleanup will take place in Tromsø, Norway on September 16, 2017 (National Ocean Cleanup Day). We will meet at 10:00 in the city center of Tromsø, where our sponsors will have giveaways, you will be able to meet up with your team members, pick up supplies for the cleanup and a booklet on how to measure how much trash we are collecting.

Do you want to volunteer on site? If so, contact to learn how you can join the Pukka Team to help drop the trash off the the appropriate place.

How to get involved

Individuals: On September 16, 2017 gather your friends and join us in the center of town at 10:00. We will be distributing bags to collect trash, and goodie bags from our sponsors.

Companies: If your company wants to get involved please sign up as a team (groups of 8 are perfect). The team that collects the most trash within each company will be entered to win an evening on board The Golden Eagle for celebration drinks and dinner while cruising through the trash free fjords.

How do we measure the trash?

We will be using the Clean Swell app, and the citizen science data they have collected for over 31 years will give us insight to how much impact we have had on the earth

Who can join?

Anyone, from any country, speaking any language can join. The passion for the ocean is a universal language and everyone is welcome to get involved and make our planet a better place.

The Pukka Philosophy: We promise to foster an environment that enables our guests to become as inspired as possible without sacrificing the comfort and service expected when traveling in harsh, ever-changing conditions. For many, this is a trip of a lifetime and we want to ensure our guests will go home with stories that will be passed on for generations to come.
